Anthelmintic Treatment of Ewe and Lamb in Relation to Parasitism and Production
نویسنده
چکیده
Apart from acting as a source of infection for the lamb, the ewe's parasite status before and after lambing can influence its own productivity and that of the lamb. For example parasitized ewes could give birth to lighter lambs and Gordon (1958) found that infection with Haemonchus contortus reduced milk production. The effects of parasites could be direct or could act indirectly through an effect on food intake.

Effect of grazing management on minimising effects of parasitic nematodes on lamb production
An integrated management system involving cattle, ewes and lambs developed to minimise levels of parasitic nematode contamination of pasture was evaluated in a 2-year (1989-1991) study. Four experimental farmlets were managed as self-containcd units over a May-May year. Over the two years, stocking rate averaged 15 su/ha and cattle:sheep ratio 35:65. Three treatments (lambs regularly drenched, ...

The number of lambs sold per ewe mated in the breeding flock has a considerable impact on sheep operation profitability. This depends primarily on fertility, prolificacy (# of lambs), and lamb survival, mothering ability, milk production of the ewe and lamb growth rate. Optimal reproduction does vary by environment and management system – some sheep operations don’t want a lambing rate over 200...

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of parenteral supplementation of cobalt, copper and iron in late pregnancy on ewe hematology parameters and lamb vigour. Twenty ewes were allocated to one of two groups (n=10). In the test group, on day 120 ofpregnancy, cobalt, copper and iron were injected at a dose of 0.1 mL/kg BW (Fercobsang, France, cobalt gluconate 5 mg/100 mL, copper ...

متن کاملRelationship between Immunoglobulin Concentrations in the Ewe's Serum and Colostrum, and Lamb's Serum in Lori-Bakhtiari Sheep
In this study 71 head of conceiving ewe and their progeny (91 head) from the flock of Lori-Bakhtiari sheep (360 head), in Sholi Station were randomly selected to determine the relationship between the immunoglobulin (IgG) concentration in the ewe's serum and colostrum, and lamb's serum. Ewe blood sample, colostrum of ewe and blood of the lamb was taken 2 weeks before parturition, 1 to 8 hours a...
